Students ministries in Illinois and across the country are gearing up for their Speed The Light fundraisers.
.
Speed The Light is a missions giving organization which provides transportation, communication equipment, and other resources to spread the Gospel around the world.
.
Growing up in church and volunteering under a couple different Youth Pastors, I’ve seen many kinds of fundraisers.
.
Each of them can be broken down into SERVICES or STUNTS.
.
SERVICES are like lawn mowing, babysitting, selling duct tape wallets, and raking leaves.
.
STUNTS are when you sponsor somebody to do something like running a marathon, wearing the same t-shirt for 30 days, or anything else that’s crazy.
.
Let me be clear: One is not better than the other.
.
It takes BOTH.
.
STUNTS are fun and great for building hype and awareness for missions.
.
SERVICES, while requiring more labor, will be what holds the weight of your giving year-round.
.
The majority of people are more likely to give money to a SERVICE over STUNT becomes they receive more value out of it, beyond just feeling charitable.
.
But your family and friends will receive value from a STUNT because they want to give to a good cause and they will enjoy watching you torture yourself.
.
So feel free to draw water from each of these wells.
.
Just take care to know when it’s time to switch base on the seasons.
.
And remember this old saying: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
