All across the country, churches have looked like this for the past couple weeks.
.
It breaks my heart to see all these empty chairs.
.
But at the same time, I’m encouraged.
.
Because I know GOOD is going to come out of this crisis.
.
I heard Scott Hagan put it something like this: Because of COVID-19, Pastors are finding out if they have been building disciples or building attendance.
.
This season is an opportunity to reexamine ourselves and the people we lead.
.
And it’s a time to develop new skills to better accomplish our call.
.
Think of it like this: Since all we have is social media now, what if we created content that allowed the unchurched to discover and engage with us?
.
And when our buildings reopen, our attendance is even greater because we spent a significant amount of time reaching people we’ve never focused on before?
.
It makes me think of what the prophet Zechariah wrote when talking about the coming King of Zion:
.
“Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double.” Zechariah 10:2
.
I’m praying that when we’re finally set free from this quarantine, that our churches will be restored to double through the work God does through us during this season.
